The 100 years of the Citroën Type A 10 HP

First car produced by André Citroën in 1919, the Type A 10 HP marks the birth of Citroën as a car manufacturer. The engineer builder ensures its conversion immediately after the first world war.
Reliable and technically interesting the Type A 10 HP is the first mass produced car in Europe and delivered complete. Originally, it is equipped with a starter and headlights, a hood without forgetting the spare wheel! It is studied to be driven by everyone. Its introductory price of 7950 francs is exceptionally low.
Type A 10 HP is presented to the 4 June 1919 press; the first customer ships the 7 July 1919.
Its engine is a four-cylinder in-line engine of 1327 cm3 developing 18 real horsepower at 2100 revolutions / minutes. It consumes only 7,5 liters at 100 kms. The gearbox is three-speed plus reverse, the rear wheels are drive. The maximum speed is 65 km / h on flat road.
various bodies are available for sale: roadster, doctor's coupe, city coupe, sedan, limousine, delivery car: the choice is great which can attract an eclectic clientele. The Citroën advertising service promotes Type A: an economical car for the city and the countryside.
Produced at the Javel plant in Paris from 1919 to 1921 24 093 copies, the Type A allows its manufacturer to assert itself and go towards success. Indeed, André Citroën becomes the first European car manufacturer in 1929 just ten years after its arrival on the automotive market. Type B2 succeeds Type A in 1921.
